Whale Watch

About a half-hour drive south of Humarock, in the town of Plymouth, you can book a whale watch excursion to Stellwagen Bank, where humpback, finback, minke, right and pilot whales can be seen migrating between April and October to feed on mackerel, herring, krill and other schooling fish that breed in the area’s nutrient-rich waters.

For a list of over a dozen companies that regularly visit Stellwagen Bank. The closest is run by Captain John Whale Watching and Fishing Tours in Plymouth, MA.

What To Bring On A Whale Watch

Depending on the time of year, it could be cold and breezy out on the ocean, so a jacket or sweat shirt is recommended late June through September. A winter coat, hat and gloves are suggested for March, April, May, October and November trips. Rubber sole shoes or sneakers are best for walking around the boat. Must-haves include a camera and binoculars. And bring sunscreen and sunglasses. Most boats have refreshments on board for purchase, but you may want to check out The Voyage and The Dispatch for picnic lunches to go.
